Something Strange About this Town

Vampire Town.jpg

Overview:

This is a two part encounter that starts as a skill/social encounter and may progress into a combat encounter. The PCs are in town looking for an artifact. What the PCs don’t know is that the artifact has corrupted the towns people, turning them into vampires. Any research on the town has yielded very little information. There is a whole lot about how prosperous the town was 100 years ago, but nothing from recent years. When they come to the town it’s rather abandoned. There seems to be a single inn and saloon. The NPCs will only turn hostile if they can get a character alone or if the PCs figure out what’s going on.

Initial Description:

You walk along the dusty road. It’s clear this town was opulent and gorgeous at one time, but seems to have fallen into disrepair. Windows have been boarded up, stores all seemed closed. The one open place seems to be a saloon. You see another walk into the saloon before you. They are wearing heavy coats that have large collars with large hats. You walk into the saloon and eyes are all on you. One booth is occupied by a woman/man (See below), who is strikingly beautiful. The man keeping the bar has a look of surprise on his face. “We don’t get many people coming to these parts? What can I do for you stranger?”

Enemies:

Everybody in the bar except for the PCs is a vampire. They may try to get some of the PCs alone. If they do that then they will attack the PC and attempt to drink their blood. None of them will will tell the PCs without getting something for it. If the PCs outright state that they know they are vampires they will attack.

Clues

What the Hell are you drinking? - The only drink available is a high grade alcohol. It burns as it goes down, but everyone around seems to be drinking it like it was water. It’s drunk to help keep the bodies of the vampires preserved and not rotting. A DC 15 Knowledge check will reveal that this grade of alcohol is normally used to preserve things and not meant to be drunk.

It’s not that cold out - The weather outside is not hot by any means, but it wasn’t cold. Everyone is wearing huge jackets and long hats that keep the sun off their bodies.

You feel so cold - If the PC ends up touching one of the Enemies they notice how cold they feel. A DC 15 medicine check reveals that it is far too cold for a living creature to function.

Extras:

How We Used it - It was part of a two year campaign we ran. The PCs had to get three artifacts and one of them was located in this town.
