A Crushing Event
Overview:
In this encounter your PCs will encounter two Giants holding spiked shields in a narrow hallway. They will have to think about how they can attack as the giants will move towards whichever section has the most people, eventually crushing them to death. It will be about maneuvering quickly and figuring out how to change positions and stay relatively safe.
Initial Description:
You drop into the narrow hallway the door slamming behind you. On either side is a spiked wall. You hear a rumbling noise, then the low growl and guttural sounds of giant speak. The walls begin to move towards you from either side. Roll initiative.
Enemies:
2 Hill Giants - Each carries a spiked stone shield. This shield grants them 3/4 cover to anyone attacking them from the front. They will use their shields to crush an enemy if they can press the enemy against the back of a wall or against another shield. This targets all creatures in the space that is being crushed and causes 3d10 piercing damage with no save.
The giants will move towards whichever side of them has the most PCs. On their turn they move their full movement speed. The giants most use an action to move their shields from one side of the body to the other.
Objectives:
Main:
Kill the Giants.
Secondary:
Give one of the giants a key to the exit (Optional) Takes 3 DC 15 sleight of hand checks to get it. (1 to get it out of the pocket, 1 to figure out how the key could be taken out, 1 to get it off the ring)
Map:
Overview:
The most important part of this map is that the shield takes up the entire width of the hallway. This was a trap designed by someone clearly more intelligent then the hill giants that are operating it.
Key:
Blue X - Door In
Red X - Door Out
Pink Dots - PCs
Brown Xs - Hill Giants
Special Mechanics:
Let me Squeeze through Here - PC can attempt to move through the giants on with a DC15 acrobatics check (haltings get to do this for free because of one of their halfling abilities). It takes them an action to move the shield from one side to another. But if they don’t move the shield they can attack. They are considered to have 3/4. They may also attempt to stop the giant from moving with a contested strength roll (taking 2d10 damage if they fail and none if they succeed).
